I suppose I should start by letting everyone know why this blog exists, a bit about myself, and what I plan to do with my little corner of the internet.
I am an artist. I am not a professional artist, but I am going to art school, and do eventually plan on making art my profession. It's my passion; I'm not sure I can imagine my life without a pencil and a blank piece of paper. I've been drawing since I can remember, and it's something that has always come naturally. I'm incredibly excited to enter art school and hone my skills and ability, and learn as much about art as I possibly can.
If you're wondering why this blog is called The Unfinished Artist, you'd be on the right track if you were taking it literally. All of my life I've been somewhat of a self diagnosed sketch artist. I have this tendency to start a picture and never really get it passed the sketching phase, so much so that everyone who knows my art has brought it up more than a few times. This whole blogging business was actually inspired by my aunt Audrey, and my mom, Elsa. It was brought up to me at the beginning of the year, and now, finally, in December of the same year, I decided to finally do it! Now, if you see any artwork on this blog that appears half done, or, unfinished, know that it's probably as finished as it will ever be.
My main focus in art is illustration and conceptual artwork, meaning I would like to become a concept artist for video games, designing characters and creatures, or perhaps even a sketch artist for various projects. I generally only use traditional media to render my art; pens, pencils, charcoal, and sometimes, when I'm feeling adventurous, oil paints. Lately, however, I have began dabbling in the arena of digital artwork.. and I'm horrible. However, I certainly hope to understand that medium more in art school.
For the most part, I draw characters from movies, television shows, video games, and books. I love to create my own original characters as well. I have a lot of fun creating and making up my own worlds and the characters that dwell within. My interests are mostly in sci-fi, fantasy, and a little bit of the occult; all for fun, never anything too serious. I love to sketch and make up my own creatures and monsters as well, probably more than anything else. I'm sure that you'll see just what I mean when I get this blog up and running!
Moving onto my plans for this website, I really just want to create a sort of online portfolio for my most recent and best pieces. I'd also like to catalog when I was drawing what during a certain year or month, and since I'm pretty disorganized, I figured a blog would be a good place to start. Obviously this is for myself, but I definitely want to share with my friends and family, and any strangers who might take an interest.
So, let's get to the art now, shall we?!
I was kind of wrestling with the idea of what to show first, and I finally just decided to post the most recent picture that I've sketched up. As I mentioned before, I like to draw characters from television shows, movies, books, etc. So, the first drawing you'll ever see from me is a bit of "fan art" for the show Supernatural, which I have been on a bit of binge for lately.
And, here you have it:

Supernatural is a show about the occult, and in this picture I have Lucifer on the left (portrayed by Mark Pellegrino) and the angel Castiel on the right (portrayed by Misha Collins). If you know the show, this illustration probably makes perfect sense, but if not, you might be a little confused. In a nutshell; Castiel has dedicated himself to personally taking out Lucifer, and in this picture it's not going so well for him. Ah, yes, I'm a little obsessed with speech bubbles, but not with drawing comic strips.
This was all done with mechanical pencils and Crayola colored pencils.
Why yes, this is most definitely the header image of this entire blog! That was also a bit of a factor in this image being the first post of the blog, since I didn't want anyone to be too confused by the header image.
I think I forgot to mention my affinity for gore, so, if you're squeamish or about 10 years old, this blog probably isn't for you ;)
Well, that about sums it up for my first ever blog post! I don't think my future posts will be this long, and I won't torture you with walls of texts very often! Thank you for stopping by, and I hope I've intrigued someone to come back some time!
Cheers!
A.H.
